Lifting of Mask Mandate First Step in Travel's Recovery
Lifting the mask mandate is a step in helping the travel industry recover. At the same time, UStiA remains sensitive to the needs of immunocompromised travelers, along with any other travelers, to feel encouraged and supported to continue wearing their masks while traveling. UStiA members also encourage the US Administration to lift the current inbound testing requirement for those proven vaccinated, as has been done by many other countries.
The travel industry and travel insurance markets have been hard hit by COVID-19, as evidenced by the recent 2018–2020 Travel Protection Market Study conducted for UStiA, which found that American’s spending on travel protection in 2020 ($1.72 billion) was down over $2 billion since the prior study from the 2016–2018 period.
